CKay, afrobeat rising star pens a global deal with Warner Music

New single Felony scheduled for 4th December

New EP coming early next year

Johannesburg, 27 November 2020: Afrobeat rising star, CKay pens a global deal with Warner Music.

Chukwuka Ekweani, known publicly as CKay is the rising star in the ever-burgeoning Afrobeats scene. A multi-talented artist, whether behind the boards as a producer or in front of the mic performing his self-penned songs, it is CKay’s single-minded vision that shines through.

His connection to music began at the early age of 7, when he was introduced to the art of singing by his father, the then choir conductor in the family church – from singing, to guitar to piano and onto production & writing music by age 13. He has since gone on to produce for some of Africa’s top artists, including Moonchild Sanelly, Falz, Dice Ailes, and M.I Abaga.

2019 saw the launch of his debut EP CKay The First with Chocolate City, on which his future break-out hit ‘love nwantiti’ was the centre-piece.

In 2020, that single was featured on Diddy’s Danceathon, raising relief funds during the COVID-19 pandemic. Later in the year, he dropped a series of remixes of ‘love nwantiti’ featuring friends from around the World – Elgrande Toto from Morocco, Franglish hailing from France, Gemini Major from Malawi and US latin star De La Ghetto, among them. This November 2020, saw a culmination of sorts – a feature and co-production credits on Nigerian superstar Davido’s A Better Time album, alongside Lil Baby, Sho Madjozi, Nicki Minaj and more.

Following a breakout year, and a successful partnership between Chocolate City Group and Warner Music South Africa, CKay is ready to share his new music. He is currently finalising his sophomore EP and first major label project, scheduled for early 2021.  The first cut, Felony drops on 4 December 2020.
